This is my FIRST blog post on my own LivBit website. I feel so lucky I get to share my story with the world. This weekend I have been watching lots and lots of news and thinking about how much the world needs words that are kind, fair, and true. Some of the things that are happening in the United States feel really, really scary to me.
My heart has changed a lot in the last 6 months since a very bad accident with my baby sister, Charlotte. Charlotte’s accident taught me that bad things can happen very, very fast. Now when I am watching the news, and I see bad things, they are much more real to me. Last week I went to the Women’s March in Chicago. The most amazing thing about that day was the different people that came together and shared their voices. I never knew anything about chanting, and I learned how you use your voice to chant together and say things with feeling, pride, and love. Even Charlotte loved to march and chant! She carried her sign and felt like her voice mattered. I started LivBits to share my story with the world and I never imagined that so many people would be inspired by my message. My LivBit work has taught me that my story matters, and when you share your story on social media it can reach places you never expected. You can also get feedback that can help you grow your thinking and understand other people in really important ways. Today my Muma sent me a link about a 7-year old Syrian girl, Bana al-Abed who tweeted to our President asking him to save her friends in Syria. Bana is begging my President to help and understand the people and children of Syria. When I read the article and went to Bana’s Twitter account, my heart was beeping so much for people I have never even met, in places I have never even visited. My heart especially beeped for Bana because she’s sharing her story with the world, and she is teaching us! Kids CAN teach us so much if we listen. I hope that when people are reading tweets by powerful people that they remember that some of the most powerful voices are the smallest voices. I think about my tweets like seeds of hope that I spread across social media. I want to grow words that are kind, true, and peaceful. I want to grow ideas that show who I am. I am a kid who can make a difference. I am not just an American kid, I am a voice for the world. Keep reading, keep thinking, and, thank you for following LivBits.
